Teaching RSE in KS2: Puberty, periods and conception

Outline

Are your pupils taught about puberty from YR4 onwards?

Description

Pupils must be taught about puberty and the changing adolescent body through a graduated, age-appropriate programme of sex education. The DfE recommends all primary schools have a sex education programme tailored to the age and physical maturity of pupils. Knowing when to start this teaching, what is age-appropriate and how to manage pupils' arising questions can feel a challenge. This course will enable your school to deliver effective teaching and assessment of these topics.

Outcomes

Increase confidence to use and teach correct scientific terms for the internal and external sexual parts of the body in an age appropriate way.

Teach the emotional and physical experiences of puberty developmentally, through a spiral curriculum.

Use simple, fun teaching strategies for the conception process.

Identify assessment of learning strategies.
