RSE curriculum design and policy development

Outline

Is your current RSE curriculum and policy compliant with the new guidance?

Description

The new subjects are part of the basic school curriculum, and the guidance provides topics to be covered in primary and secondary schools. Schools are free to determine how to deliver the topics, in the context of a broad and balanced curriculum. All schools must have in place a written policy for RSE that has been developed and reviewed in consultation with parents.
Attendance at this course will enable the development of a needs-led spiral RSE curriculum, supported by the development of a robust policy that reflects the ethos and values of your schools, and that empowers your teachers to teach effective RSE.

Attendees of this course will be provided with an example model RSE policy for customisation in your school.

Outcomes

  • Consider a range of pupil consultation methods that identify the needs of your school pupils, including vulnerable groups.
  • Know how to design an age and stage appropriate curriculum.
  • Identify a tool to write a robust RSE policy that is fully compliant with the new RSE guidance.
