1 in 2 young people say they are not 100% heterosexual. Is your RSE inclusive enough to meet their needs?
In the most recent national poll of young people on RSE, LGBT inclusive RSE content was unacceptable, with nearly a quarter of all young people having not learnt anything about LGBT+ issues. All schools must ensure they comply with the relevant provisions of the Equality Act, 2010. The new guidance allows schools to determine how they address LGBT specific content, with the recommendation of an integral approach. RSE teaching must be inclusive to meet the needs of all pupils irrespective of their gender, sexual identities and body differences.
This course is suitable for primary and secondary schools.
Attendees will leave the course with ideas for learning activities to cascade in school to both pupils and staff CPD.
- Develop confidence in talking about gender and sexuality, including appropriate terminology throughout the key stages.
- Know how to teach about gender and sexuality in an age-appropriate way.
- Adapt existing RSE lessons to enable an integrated approach to LGBT inclusive teaching.
All attendees must complete a short evaluation survey prior to attending the training.
