Are your pupils taught about puberty from YR4 onwards?
Pupils must be taught about puberty and the changing adolescent body through a graduated, age-appropriate programme of sex education.
The DfE recommends all primary schools have a sex education programme tailored to the age and physical maturity of pupils. Knowing when to start this teaching, what is age-appropriate and how to manage pupil’s arising questions can feel a challenge.
This course will enable your school to deliver effective teaching and assessment of these topics.
- Increase confidence to use and teach correct scientific terms for the internal and external sexual parts of the body in an age appropriate way.
- Teach the emotional and physical experiences of puberty developmentally, through a spiral curriculum.
- Use simple, fun teaching strategies for the conception process.
- Identify assessment of learning strategies.
