KS2&3: Multiple Maths Representations and Manipulatives

Outline

Invested in manipulatives? Join us to discover how you can make the most of the manipulative resources you have invested in.

Description

Get hands-on to explore a varied range of topics from substituting to solving equations, place value to proportion and calculating to fractions.

After exploring the research and evidence around the use of manipulatives and representations, you’ll learn how to teach a variety of mathematical topics using representations and manipulatives; the cornerstone of a successful mastery approach. You do not however, have to be considering mastery to benefit; this approach can be used to teach a range of mathematical concepts effectively.

Expect to leave inspired and equipped to implement engaging approaches in your classroom immediately. Through participation teachers will gain a strong understanding and increased confidence when teaching for mastery.

Manipulatives and Representations will include:

  • Cuisenaire rods
  • Bar models
  • Balances
  • Algebra Tiles
  • Double sided Counters

Outcomes

By the end of the session delegates will:

  • Leave with a clear understanding of how to move pupils from the concrete to the abstract
  • Comprehend the importance of multiple representations of the same concept
  • Have a wealth of easy-to-use, practical ways to make the most of your math resources.
