Description

Identify the Mathematics vocabulary, learners need to progress along their reasoning journey and be equipped with ideas for developing rich mathematical vocabulary in your school. 

Reasoning is an important component of proof in mathematics and it relies upon your ability to communicate and justify your mathematical thinking, Teaching the language of Mathematics enables learners to know and understand the Mathematics they need to act upon. 

Through challenging you to go on a reason hunt, Language to Reason Mathematically will ensure that you plan for and create enhanced reasoning opportunities in your classroom whilst directly teaching specific mathematical vocabulary.

Outcomes

By the end of the session delegates will:

  • Explore the requirements of National Curriculum mathematics language across Key Stage 1 and 2
  • Be equipped to teach learners specific vocabulary and how to use it in their explanations effectively
  • Inspire learners’ passions for reasoning through conjecturing, convincing and justifying others of their mathematical strategies to solve word problems
  • Evaluate, plan, and assess your current impact and future practice for the teaching and learning of mathematical vocabulary.
